The overwhelmingly non-urgent to-do list
My to-do list for this weekend fills up an entire page in my notebook.
When I looked at it Friday night, I wanted to ceremonially burn it. (Not just the list, the entire notebook.)
There are way more things on that list than I can feasibly accomplish in a weekend. This means that some of them are not going to get done. That's a really unpleasant feeling.
But some of them have to get done. For example, I have to get groceries. I can't just eat peanut butter straight out of the jar for a week. And so I have done the things that have to get done.
The problem is that most of the things on the list don't need to get done for a while. They need to be done by Wednesday or Friday or May. I don't feel any urgency in getting them done.
But I know that when Wednesday or Friday (or even May) rolls around, I'm going to be short on time. I'm always short on time. And I will wish that I had done them this weekend.
So here I am, sitting at my desk on Sunday night, looking over my to-do list with half of the boxes still unchecked and wondering "Did I do enough not to panic later this week?"
Probably not.
I won't know for certain until Wednesday though.
